Meet the team
Over the past twenty years helming his three-Michelin-star restaurant, Osteria Francescana, chef Massimo Bottura has worked as an innovator and restaurateur which has earnt him a reputation as one of the world’s leading culinary figures. In-depth knowledge of the Italian kitchen has armed Massimo with an understanding of how to cook nose-to-tail and root-to-leaf. After all, much of Italy’s cucina povera - the country’s traditional peasant cuisine - is based on strong no-waste principles.
Recently, Massimo has applied his creative energy to social issues by engaging in community projects. In January 2016, he was awarded European Chef of the Year by Madrid Fusion for after building community kitchen Refettorio Ambrosiano in Milan during Expo Milan 2015. By founding Food for Soul, Massimo continues his mission of empowering local communities around the world.
Together with Massimo, his husband, Lara launched Food for Soul as a way of redefining the role of traditional soup kitchens and has been instrumental in the success of its projects. She has worked in the culinary world for more than 20 years as an integral part of the behind-the-scenes team of Osteria Francescana, ensuring its growth and working on international marketing and communications. Lara continues to dedicate her ideas and energy to making Food for Soul reach the wider community and involving professionals from all over the world in the mission of the non-profit organisation.
